"Capturing the relationships felt effortless. it reminded me of how much I love what I do, and inspired me to spend more time bonding with my daughter."

Mother/Daughter Yoga retreat

RETREAT Photography & FILM

For three days, we tagged along with Nectar Flow Yoga on a mother/daughter retreat built around connection; yoga sessions at sunrise, horse painting in the afternoon, quiet moments of bonding, and dancing that carried well into the evening. Our job was to capture it all, on camera and on video, in a way that felt as warm and unscripted as the retreat itself.

This shoot called for a documentary-style approach; photo and video that could keep up with a full weekend of movement, emotion, and spontaneous moments. Rather than staging scenes, we stayed close to the action across every part of the retreat: the stillness of a yoga flow, the mess and laughter of horse painting, and the easy affection between mothers and daughters throughout.

Our Process:

Before the retreat began, we sat down with the Nectar Flow Yoga owner to understand what she actually needed these visuals to do. Which sections of the retreat mattered most? What story did they want to tell to promote future retreats? Getting clear on that upfront meant we could move through three packed days with intention, knowing exactly which moments to prioritize and what message the final images and video needed to carry.

Challenges and Inspiration:

The biggest challenge on this one was personal: I wasn't just behind the camera, I was a participant too, there with my own daughter. Finding the balance between doing the job and actually being present in the retreat with her took some navigating in the moment.

But that challenge is also what made the shoot so meaningful. Capturing the relationships around me felt effortless, genuinely fun, and a reminder of why I love this work in the first place. It also left me wanting to spend more time bonding with my own daughter, long after the cameras were packed away.
